Fashion Rules!
1. Imperfect is perfect. Whenever I feel like I look too polished or too put together, I'd put on an over-sized cardigan or rugged shoes to break the polished look. I think it's a matter of personal style; if you like keeping it clean, then at least have an interesting item to make your look yours.
2. Try something new every now and then. If you like wearing dresses and skirts, try sporting a rocker look. It'll be a breath of fresh air not only for you, but your friends as well. You don't have to go all-out, start with a jacket or an accessory.
3. Always have a go-to shirt. Your closet is like your pool of friends; there's always that one friend who you come to during emergencies. It's always comforting to know you have that one shirt you can wear and still not look you only had a minute to get dressed.
5. It's better to be overdressed than underdressed. It's better to look like you are over doing something than looking like you didn't care at all, especially for occasions when you are trying to impress someone.
6. If you're not sure about what you're wearing, change it. Sometimes you're in a hurry and you put something on and you're not sure whether you're comfortable or confident in it or not. Chances are, you'll be insecure all day. So take that extra minute to change into something else, it doesn't matter if you've worn that a week ago, at least you're comfortable in it. See the importance of #4?!
7. Be practical! As a frequent Divisoria visitor, I find it a curse and a blessing that I am aware of how cheap clothes can go. Often times, I find over-priced goods in malls and online shops and I'd recall that the same thing is sold for a fraction of the price in Divi. The set back is that I find it hard to buy anything nowadays because I always think "There must be a cheaper one in Divi!". But atleast it keeps me from spending! Just learn to find the balance between the price tag and the quality of whatever you're buying, and keep in mind which items are investment pieces and which are not.
8. Some things aren't just meant for you. Deal with it! I'm not that tall so you won't really see me in a maxi dress and gladiator sandals no matter how much I want to try that look. But there is hope! I can wear heels with a long dress, or choose a dress with a shorter hem in the front. Always consider your body type, features, and skin tone when dressing instead of opting for what looks on celebrities and models.
9. No camel toes or buttcracks. As much as I try to avoid these, ill-fitting shorts make me look like I have camel toes. The horror! So be with me in this one, WE. MUST. AVOID. IT.
10. Break all the rules! While this kinda negates everything I've written so far, the truth is, fashion should be fun and personal. Don't let fashion experts tell you can and you can't wear. Do as you please, look good, and you're forgiven. (If you can make camel toes look good, then by all means, wear it loud and proud!)
