Fashion Rules!
1. Imperfect is perfect. Whenever I feel like I look too polished or too put together, I'd put on an over-sized cardigan or rugged shoes to break the polished look. I think it's a matter of personal style; if you like keeping it clean, then at least have an interesting item to make your look yours.
2. Try something new every now and then. If you like wearing dresses and skirts, try sporting a rocker look. It'll be a breath of fresh air not only for you, but your friends as well. You don't have to go all-out, start with a jacket or an accessory.
3. Always have a go-to shirt. Your closet is like your pool of friends; there's always that one friend who you come to during emergencies. It's always comforting to know you have that one shirt you can wear and still not look you only had a minute to get dressed.
5. It's better to be overdressed than underdressed. It's better to look like you are over doing something than looking like you didn't care at all, especially for occasions when you are trying to impress someone.
6. If you're not sure about what you're wearing, change it. Sometimes you're in a hurry and you put something on and you're not sure whether you're comfortable or confident in it or not. Chances are, you'll be insecure all day. So take that extra minute to change into something else, it doesn't matter if you've worn that a week ago, at least you're comfortable in it. See the importance of #4?!
7. Be practical! As a frequent Divisoria visitor, I find it a curse and a blessing that I am aware of how cheap clothes can go. Often times, I find over-priced goods in malls and online shops and I'd recall that the same thing is sold for a fraction of the price in Divi. The set back is that I find it hard to buy anything nowadays because I always think "There must be a cheaper one in Divi!". But atleast it keeps me from spending! Just learn to find the balance between the price tag and the quality of whatever you're buying, and keep in mind which items are investment pieces and which are not.
8. Some things aren't just meant for you. Deal with it! I'm not that tall so you won't really see me in a maxi dress and gladiator sandals no matter how much I want to try that look. But there is hope! I can wear heels with a long dress, or choose a dress with a shorter hem in the front. Always consider your body type, features, and skin tone when dressing instead of opting for what looks on celebrities and models.
9. No camel toes or buttcracks. As much as I try to avoid these, ill-fitting shorts make me look like I have camel toes. The horror! So be with me in this one, WE. MUST. AVOID. IT.
10. Break all the rules! While this kinda negates everything I've written so far, the truth is, fashion should be fun and personal. Don't let fashion experts tell you can and you can't wear. Do as you please, look good, and you're forgiven. (If you can make camel toes look good, then by all means, wear it loud and proud!)

Who do you dress for?

I didn't realize that theories could be applied to clothing until I read 'Fashion & the Self'. As CT majors, the motivations for dressing are interesting and practical ideas to look into as we can all relate to it and at the same time, apply it in the future when it's our turn to provide dresses for different kinds of people.
Most of the points in the article suggest that people dress to attract other people. My initial reaction to this was disagreement, I'm not dressing up to attract guys. But I realized that it does not necessarily mean 'trying to attract guys or possible partners', but also to attract or please other women. Sometimes, getting the approval of fellow females is more satisfying. I, for one, find it more flattering when a girl compliments me.
I also learned this week that the term 'clothing' is not limited to the garments one wears, but it encompasses everything we obtain and attact to or wear on our bodies. Garments, accessories, and grooming are all parts of the clothing. Yes, braces and contact lenses included.
If I Had A Uniform
I chose this loose knit top because I can use it when its cold and I can always just roll up the sleeves when it gets hot. Because I go to different places all the time, it's important that I am ready for different kinds of temperature. It's also in a nude color so that I won't get tired of it too easily.
I chose shorts because I find shorts more comfortable than pants. And since I already chose a thick and long top, it would be too hot if I wear pants. The details on the shorts also adds interest to the outfit.
Since I walk a lot, it's more practical to wear sneakers. It's more comfortable and it keeps my feet clean. It also adds just enough color to the outfit.
I carry a lot of things all the time so this backpack is perfect. I can put my notebook, camera, make-up kit, and all the unnecessary things I carry with me in here. Plus, I think it's really cute.
Umbrellas are very important since in the Philippines, it's either raining or it's too hot outside. I prefer big umbrellas because they are more trusty and they can also double as self-defense tools!
And lastly, aviators to protect my eyes from harsh sunlight OR to hide my sleepiness. It's in pink to break the blue colors and I chose an aviator because it matched my face shape.
